2021 NBA Draft Scouting Reports
Every week I’m rolling out in-depth scouting reports on the top prospects in the 2021 NBA Draft.
The full scouting reports are only accessible to paying subscribers. Each report goes in-depth on player strengths, weaknesses, statistical strengths and weaknesses, and rank key player attributes for each player.
This week I tackle Kentucky’s Brandon Boston Jr., Oral Robert’s Max Abmas, Arizona State’s Josh Christopher, Gonzaga’s Joël Ayayi and Alabama’s Joshua Primo. Below is a free excerpt from each scouting report.
BRANDON BOSTON JR.
W, KENTUCKY, FRESHMAN
Age 19.5 | 6'7" | 185 | Wingspan: 6’11”
Birthdate: Nov. 28, 2001
Primary Values: Scoring
Bottom line: After huge preseason hype, Boston's very shaky freshman season has pushed him from the lottery to potentially the second round. His shooting, decision-making and lack of strength concern teams. But his high school reputation as a talented, driven scorer still carries some weight, and if he puts on muscle in the next few months and shoots the ball well in workouts, he could move right back up into the first round.

MAX ABMAS
PG, ORAL ROBERTS, SOPHOMORE
Age 20.1 | 6'1" | 165 |
Birthdate: April 2, 2001
Primary Values: Shooting, scoring
Bottom line: Abmas is benefiting from both his strong play in the NCAA Tournament and Trae Young’s sensational performance in the NBA playoffs. Abmas’ dynamic ballhandling, his ability to create for himself and others and his talent for shooting efficiently with a high volume of 3s are going to get him serious looks in the first round.

JOSH CHRISTOPHER
SG, ARIZONA STATE, FRESHMAN
Age 19.5 | 6'4" | 215 | Wingspan: 6’8”
Birthdate: Dec. 8, 2001
Primary Values: Scoring
Bottom line: Christopher is another polarizing prospect who is all over draft boards. Some teams have projected him to go late in the lottery. For many others he’s planted firmly in the second round. He is one of the best pure scorers in the draft, can score from anywhere and is aggressive looking for his shot. The question is whether he will do anything when the ball isn’t in his hands to help teams win.

JOËL AYAYI
G, GONZAGA, JUNIOR
Age 21.3 | 6'5" | 180
Birthdate: Mar. 5, 2000
Primary Values: Versatility, shooting, rebounding
Bottom line: Overshadowed by Jalen Suggs and Corey Kispert, Ayayi had a strong season of his own as a versatile guard who can play both the 1 and the 2. He shot the ball well from 3, was a great rebounder for a guard, and was an engaged defender. He’s more of a complementary player, but NBA teams are looking for players like Ayayi at this point in the draft.

JOSHUA PRIMO
W, ALABAMA, FRESHMAN
Age 18.5 | 6'6" | 190 | WINGSPAN: 6’11”
Birthdate: Dec 24, 2002
Primary Values: Shooting, rebounding
Bottom line: Primo took a back seat to a senior-laden Alabama team, serving as little more than a spot-up 3-point shooter. Scouts that saw him in high school believe there’s a lot more to his game and that he could become the type of 3-and-D wing everyone in the NBA is obsessed with finding. With great workouts, he could end up sneaking into the first round.
