Provided the GS can't get Lillard or Beal deal done by Thursday, what do you think of Christian Wood's fit with the Warriors? The precise trade could be formulated a number of different ways--one version could be Wood, Danuel House, and the 23rd pick for Wiseman, Looney, and the 7th pick.
I like the trade for both teams. GS gets a legitimate center who can space the floor and provide some off-ball rim protection. Wood can be pushed around inside, but that's as much a concern with Greene playing the four. House provides some wing depth and GS still has the 14th and 23rd picks to either add depth or make additional moves. The move is more or less revenue-neutral, an important consideration for GS.
My beloved Rockets get two rebuilding pieces in Wiseman and the 7th pick. It would make for a very long year in terms of wins and losses, but they would be an exciting young team with a promising young core.
What do you think? I realize this is the second comment in this chat thread regarding C. Wood. That is no surprise, as he is a good player on an excellent contract who doesn't quite fit the timeline for the Rockets.
I'm not sure what Wood's trade value is exactly. Really difficult to figure it out. But I think it wouldn't garner 7 and Wiseman. I think they're looking for more than that for those two assets. If I was Houston? I'd do that in a heart beat.
Understood. Wood averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds per game last year, and shot 38 percent from 3 at a fairly high volume. His contract--$13.6 million next year and $14 million the year after--is very reasonable. Yet he was also hurt a lot, didn't shoot free throws well, and has some defensive limitations against bigger centers. It would certainly be a gamble by GS.
GS may find itself in a bind where its assets are not quite enough to get a star like Lillard and Beal, but seem like an overpay for somebody like Wood. What they do at draft night will be really interesting.
That's the way Sam Presti thinks! No reason to think Troy Weaver didn't learn a thing or two. That's why I've been hedging a bit on Pistons staying at one. Most GMs take Cade and never look back. But I just think Weaver will be more opportunistic than that. Then again, it's very tough to pass on a player like Cade, so no fault on him if he takes him 1.
Agreed, can’t go wrong with Cade and Pistons would be fun to watch. I just feel like they are going to do something with the pick. This is wild actually talking to you about this! Thanks for taking the time. Been a draft junkie my entire life.
Portland should be demanding something in the future (2025 or 2026 first) as well to hedge a little and not have to develop all the talent on Day 1 of a rebuild. It would also provide draft/trade capital if either Wiseman or players selected at 7 or 14 become a star.
Enjoyed the pod, as always!

Keep the good stuff coming, we can’t get enough!
I’ll just throw this here in case Troy Weaver is snooping around.
Pistons trade down to 2 for beloved Christian Wood (good contract) and a bounty of picks.
Then on draft day they trade down to 3 to the cavs (who will jump on Mobley) and get Okoro ( possibly Garland and more) and quality picks.
Draft Jalen Green at 3.
You have now completed a full franchise turnaround in one years time and take your place amongst the stars in the sky.
Killian, Green, Grant, Wood, Beef Stew
Bey, Okoro
Great young core that can compete right now. With flexibility and picks to mould into a contender.

Awesome episode, excited to see what Marc does with Substack!
