JT Toppin made a strong impression on NBA scouts during his freshman year at New Mexico, quickly emerging as one of the hidden gems of the 2023 high school recruiting class. Once an under-the-radar recruit, Toppin transitioned into a legitimate NBA prospect, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year and All-Mountain West Second Team honors in 2023-24. After a standout debut season where he averaged 12.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, Toppin declared for the 2024 NBA Draft and participated in the NBA Draft Combine. Ultimately, he chose to transfer to Texas Tech, where he enters the season as a projected first-round pick.
