MEMPHIS — Mike Foster is not your typical underdog story.
In 2020-21, as a high school senior, he averaged 32.2 points and 18.4 rebounds for one of the top prep programs in the country. He was a teenage phenom and consensus 5-star recruit who had his own blog in Sports Illustrated and made his professional basketball debut in the G League at age 18.
It seems strange to talk about a high school superstar with the talent to start for G League Ignite becoming an under-the-radar prospect less than 12 months later. But that’s the arc that Michael Foster Jr. has seen his young career take as an NBA draft prospect.
I talked to him and several coaches about where Foster is in the draft process.
