FIBA U16 EuroBasket Scouting Notebook: Who Stood Out in Romania?
Benjamin Berrouet stole the show, but several intriguing young prospects gave me plenty to follow going forward.
The FIBA U16 EuroBasket is one of the first stages where we get a chance to see some of Europe’s potential stars of tomorrow compete against their peers in a national team setting.
It’s also the one of the major FIBA events that I’ve yet to attend in person. I’ve been to the U18 EuroBasket, the FIBA U17 and U19 World Cup, the senior EuroBasket and the FIBA World Cup, but I still haven’t made it to the U16s.
That doesn’t mean I haven’t been watching.
This year’s tournament in Oradea, Romania gave me an opportunity to get another look at several prospects I was already familiar with, while also introducing me to a new group of names that are now firmly on my radar. At this age, I’m not interested in making definitive NBA projections or overreacting to one week of basketball. There’s simply too much development ahead of these players.
Instead, I’m looking for traits, flashes and performances that give me a reason to keep watching.
And after spending the week following the action in Romania, there are several prospects I’ll be tracking much more closely throughout this upcoming season and beyond.
Here are the players who caught my attention at the 2026 FIBA U16 EuroBasket.
