If you were to drop a prospect in any random lineup or system, how confident would you be that they’ll adapt to that environment? This is a hypothetical that I value, greatly, as it pertains to prospect evaluation, and it ties to the concept of portability. Given how unpredictable draft night is, and where these prospects will ultimately end up, finding the most portable players, that can adapt to any lineup, should be a general manager’s top priority, as those prospects rarely feel uncomfortable in their role no matter where they go, their playstyle naturally allows for their teammates to play how they like to play, and it contributes to an overall greater team morale. Despite the common, negative perception behind his name, this is one of the main reasons why I believe Emoni Bates will be a top 10 pick in future redrafts, despite his current 2nd round projected consensus.
