Big Problems in Dallas?
How the Mavericks can address their glaring need for frontcourt help through the draft
When looking at the depth chart of the Mavericks, they check the majority of prerequisites that constitute a championship-caliber team. They have two world-class creators and shot makers in Luka Dončić & Kyrie Irving, who showed their potential as a duo when they combined for 82 points and 18 assists against the Philadelphia 76ers in early March.
Dallas also has complimentary play-finishers for their creators, evident by their 87th percentile spot-up efficiency rating, and the Mavericks were in the 93rd percentile for overall offensive efficiency.
However, despite their offensive excellence, the Mavericks didn't even qualify for the play-in tournament, opting to tank their final two games to end their season below .500 with a 38-44 record.
Missing the playoffs a year after a run to the Western Conference Finals led many to conclude that Dallas needs a significant amount of roster reconstruction before they're a legitimate title contender.
Re-signing Kyrie Irving
Irving is a free agent and the Mavericks are making re-signing Irving their top priority when free agency begins on Friday, June 30.
In the case that Irving does return to Dallas, here is how the Mavericks can improve through the 2023 NBA Draft.
