Scouting Reports: Ziaire Williams, Isaiah Jackson, Jaden Springer, Tre Mann
2021 NBA Draft Scouting Reports
Every week I’m rolling out in-depth scouting reports on the top prospects in the 2021 NBA Draft.
The full scouting reports are only accessible to paying subscribers. Each report goes in-depth on player strengths, weaknesses, statistical strengths and weaknesses, and rank key player attributes for each player.
This week I tackle Stanford’s Ziaire Williams, Kentucky’s Isaiah Jackson, Tennessee’s Jaden Springer and Florida’s Tre Mann. Below is a free excerpt from each scouting report.
ZIAIRE WILLIAMS
WING, STANFORD, FRESHMAN
Age 19.7 | 6'8" | 185 | Wingspan: 6’ 10.5”
Birthdate: Sept. 12, 2001
Primary Values: Playmaking, versatility
Bottom line: Right now Williams is living off the promise he showed in high school more than what he did at Stanford. He was generally considered a top-10 prospect before the season, but his lack of strength and shaky jumper exposed what he’ll struggle with at the next level. He’s a toolsy wing with very unrefined tools right now. The team that drafts him will have to be patient. Nevertheless, the NBA is obsessed with big wings, and that alone may end up convincing a team to draft him in the late lottery in the hope that with more strength and a consistent jump shot he becomes a playmaking 3-and-D wing.

ISAIAH JACKSON
F/C, KENTUCKY, FRESHMAN
Age 19.3 | 6'10" | 205 | Wingspan: 7’2.5”
Birthdate: Jan. 10, 2002
Primary Values: Shot blocking, athleticism
Bottom line: Jackson is a long-term project who appeals to teams because of his length, mobility and rim-protecting skills. However, his team will have to be patient. He can’t be an elite defender if he can’t stay on the floor because of foul trouble. If he can add strength without sacrificing speed and develop his jump shot, the upside is high. But there’s a lot of downside here too.

JADEN SPRINGER
G, TENNESSEE, FRESHMAN
Age 18.6 | 6'4" | 205 |
Birthdate: Sept. 25, 2002
Primary Values: Defense, motor
Bottom line: Will Springer’s game translate? That’s the question on every scout's mind right now. He was impressive as one of the youngest freshmen in the country, but a lot of his best attributes (strength, motor, toughness) may not translate as well at the next level. As a defender, teams are convinced that he’ll be an asset. Offensively? He’s probably going to have to make adjustments to succeed in the NBA. There are scouts that think he has a good-enough feel and enough of a work ethic on and off the court to make it happen. But there’s real risk here too.

TRE MANN
G, FLORIDA, SOPHOMORE
Age 20.2 | 6'5" | 190 |
Birthdate: Feb. 3, 2001
Primary Values: Ballhandling, shooting
Bottom line: Mann’s summer growth spurt and his strong play down the stretch for Florida have pushed him from a fringe first-rounder into potentially the mid-first round. His size, versatility and shooting are all very attractive, and scouts feel that there’s room for him to continue to develop. If he were a more explosive athlete or a more aggressive defender, he’d be much higher on this list.
